Perfusion Principles and Circuit Safety

CPB 101 delves into the physiological basis and practical application of extracorporeal support systems. Students will explore components such as pumps, oxygenators, heat exchangers, and filters, learning their individual functions and integrated performance within a circuit. Emphasis is placed on understanding flow dynamics, gas exchange, temperature management, and anticoagulation strategies. Critical safety aspects, including alarm management, troubleshooting common issues, and emergency procedures, are integrated throughout the curriculum. The course prepares students for their vital role in maintaining equipment integrity and contributing to optimal patient outcomes by ensuring circuit reliability and safety. Practical skills development is a cornerstone of this introductory course.
